Youth Olympic Summer Games - BMX Singapore

The Youth Olympic Games is for athletes between the ages of 14 and 18.
Singapore is the host of the 1st Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2010.

The Youth Olympic Games aim is to bring together talented athletes aged from
14 to 18 - from around the world to participate in high-level competitions, - but
also, alongside the sports element of the event, to run educational programmes
on the Olympic values, the benefits of sports for a healthy lifestyle, - the social
values sport can deliver and the dangers of doping and of training to excess and
or of inactivity. The first ever Summer Youth Olympic Games will bring together
approximately 3,200 athletes and 800 officials in 2010.

BMX Racing is on the 2010 Youth Olympic Games events list.

06/03/2010 -- Japan Wins Four Medals In BMX At Singapore Bike Carnival.
Japanese riders ruled the newly constructed BMX arena at the Singapore Bike
Carnival in the Juniors BMX Race by stealing all three top spots in junior mens
category and also the gold medal in the junior womens category. -- Redsports.

News Releases by: Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee.

The upgrading works for the Tampines Bike Park (TBP) has been completed and
certified by Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the International Federation for
Cycling, as ready to host the Bicycle Moto-Cross (BMX) and Mountain Bike
competition for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

Spanning over 23 hectares, the upgraded TBP is the first of its kind in
Olympic Games. It is designed such that spectators to the Singapore 2010
races will be able to have a clear view of the BMX competition as well as
watch the start and end of Time Trial and Mountain Bike events from the
spectators stand.

The bike park is made up of two cycling tracks - mountain bike trail and
BMX track. The mountain bike trail that will be competed on during Singapore
2010 spans three kilometres with four rock garden downhill trails. The track
is a test of true skills of the riders through their bike handling techniques
and endurance. Sixty percent of the trail consists of a single track, which
provides greater challenge in overtaking the opponents.

The BMX track spans 355 metres with the purpose of testing swiftness and
speed in completing the course. This dirt track consists of no less than 26
jumps and three banked corners.

The BMX track is designed and built by Tom Ritzenthaler from UCI and his
team, who also constructed the BMX track for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games
when this discipline made its debut. The same team will be building a cycling
track for London 2012.

The Singapore Mountain Bike Carnival was organised on 29 and 30 May 2010
to mark the completion of the TBP. It was used to validate the operations plan
for Singapore 2010 Mountain Bike and BMX events. These Carnival events
have attracted 40 participants from Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan,
Kazakhstan, Malaysia and Singapore.

Singapore 2010 - Blazing The Trail

Singapore will be hosting the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) from
14 to 26 August 2010. The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games will receive
some 5,000 athletes and officials from the 205 National Olympic Committees
(NOCs), along with an estimated 1,200 media representatives, 20,000 local
and international volunteers, and more than 370,000 spectators.

Young athletes aged between 14 and 18 years will compete in
26 sports and take part in a Culture and Education Programme.

The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games aims to inspire youth around the
world to embrace, embody and express the Olympic values of Excellence,
Friendship and Respect. It will create a lasting sports, culture and
education legacy for Singapore and youths from around the world, as
well as enhance and elevate the sporting culture locally and regionally.

Over the next month, as many as 10 validation events will be
held at various competition venues. The validation exercises
will further ensure they are operationally ready for the Games.

05/07/2010 -- Team USA - Youth Olympic Games Less Than 100 Days Out
In all, the U.S. Team will consist of athletes in 17 sports: aquatics (swimming
and diving), archery, badminton, basketball, equestrian, fencing, gymnastics,
judo, modern pentathlon, sailing, table tennis, taekwondo, track & field, triathlon,
volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling. -- NOTE: Cycling/BMX is NOT listed.
Gene`s BMX will still support the YOG due to BMX being in it. So Go Canada!

The first Youth Olympic Games, organised by the International Olympic
Committee (IOC), will be held in Singapore in August 2010. Cycling will
have three disciplines on the programme: road (road race and time trial),
mountain bike and BMX. In total, 26 sports will be represented at the Games
which will also offer the young athletes a cultural and educative programme.

The UCIs first Youth Olympic Games newsletter provides information on
the concept of participation and the qualification system, as well as the list
of qualifying events and the cycling calendar for the Youth Games.
