The Street Surfer BMX Bike - Review

Gene`s BMX News Review -- 10/02/2007
The Aussies do love their extreme sports, especially the ones involving
cool hardware, so it's no surprise that it was an Australian company that
crossed a skateboard with a BMX. The Street Surfer, which dates back to
1998 prototype with actual skateboard wheels, is a trick bike and cruiser
which is steered by leaning rather than by turning handlebars, so you can
carve the streets up, surf-style.
The Street Surfer, Are Five Wheels Better?
The company claims that the extra wheels give better traction
and stability (and probably gets stuck in potholes a lot easier, too).
The custom suspension is self adjusting, and soaks up impact as well as
"hugging the road". Best of all, there's an option to swap out the front
assembly "Dirt Jump Forks" which are, you guessed it, regular bike forks.
~ Check Out The YouTube Videos Of The Street Surfer ~
The videos show the Street Surfer in action, although it doesn't seem to
be doing much more than a regular BMX. Although what would I know?
It is expected to be a huge hit with BMX bikers and stunt cyclists.
A resident of Perth, Varrone says it takes a little time to get the hang
of the machine. The Street Surfer has no US dealers right now, but
the Euro version will cost about €700 ( $970 ).......
For more detailed information see: (
The Street Surfer ) web site.

BAWLS Guarana BMX 4-Packs! - Review

On August 21st 2007 Gene`s BMX took a small trip to the area Target store.
We where pushing are shopping cart around the store loading it up with some
Pepsi and all sorts of junk. Sitting on the shelf next to the Pepsi was this new
BAWLS Guarana BMX 4-Pack. - Since it had the known BMX logos on it,
we added it in to the shopping cart. We got it home and poped one open to
give it a try. - It is an ok drink I guess, but up against Pepsi, - I would take the
Pepsi over the Bawls. The logos on the Bawls 4-Pack box are cool looking, it
gives some cool deals for free BMX racing on it. For $6.99 I guess the box will
have to sit on the shelf with all the other BMX collectibles, as it is cool looking..
Here is the information on the box about the free BMX race deal via PR:
Also Note: Terms Of Use: One coupon per cumstomer and may be used by
an individual who has NEVER been registered as an ABA or NBL member.
So, it is a down fall and a bummer for anyone that is already racing BMX....
*** Enjoy A Free Day Of Racing With BAWLS Guarana BMX 4-Packs! ***
Wanna race? BAWLS Guarana, in partnership with the American Bicycle
Association (
ABA) and the National Bicycle League (
NBL), is presenting
BAWLS fans everywhere with a complimentary race pass and temporary
membership that gives them access to enjoy one full day of racing at any
participating BMX track in their area.
BAWLS fans can pick up their race pass on the new, limited edition
BMX 4-packs available at Target and other retail stores nationwide.
First timers can visit a track list on
BAWLStyle.com to find the track
located nearest them to try BMX racing out!
BAWLS Guarana has become the drink of choice for BMXers everywhere as the
Official Energy Drink sponsors of the NBL and ABA, sponsoring and sampling at
more than 50 Nationals races in 2007. BAWLS Guarana also recently launched the
BAWLS Guarana track partnership program, which grants a number of benefits to
BMX tracks that sell products, as well as sponsorships to teams that represent them.
About BAWLS
BAWLS is the brainchild of entrepreneur Hoby Buppert, CEO of Hobarama, who
named the beverage for the caffeinated “bounce” the drink packs. Widely distributed
to local super markets, convenience stores (7-Eleven), Target stores, Metropark,
CompUSA stores, gaming venues; BAWLS is a premium, non-alcoholic, carbonated
beverage made from the guarana berry harvested in the Amazonian Rainforest.
The caffeine found in BAWLS Guarana contains the same amount of caffeine as
coffee and nearly three times that of traditional sodas due to a naturally occurring
form of the stimulant found in the guarana berry. BAWLS’ unique refreshing flavor
tastes like a citrus infused cream soda and its popularity continues to grow over
a variety of different sectors including financial institutions, the fashion industry,
technology businesses, military bases, extreme sports and college campuses.

~~ Here is some information sources about "Energy Drinks" found on the web:
See: -

Also See: -

Also NOTE For BMX Racers Out There: Some of them Energy Sports Drinks
out there may have some ingredients in them that can and may show up with in a
dopping test. It can and may end up of you getting Ban from BMX racing event(s).
So, Know what you're drinking. Energy drinks are not necessarily bad for you, but

older riders from back in the days - A trip back in to time.
Quotes from - Bob Hadley, Bob Haro, David Clinton, Perry "PK" Kramer,
Scot Breithhaupt, John Palfeyman, Harry Leary, Stu Thomsen, Rick Twomey,

The 20" X-Games BMX Motobike bike,
The X-Games BMX Motobike looks like a real motocross bike, but runs on the fierce
power of your own two legs. Equipped with an oversized aluminum frame, bump-eating
dual suspension, disc brakes and motocross-style seat and fenders, This mean-looking,
mud-churning speed machine is as close as you can get to motocross without a Class-M
license and a can of gasoline. - It is a cool looking BMX bike sold in the mass market chains.
I do not think you would take this bmx bike to your area BMX track to race it. But it makes for
a cool bmx bike to show off on around the streets and makes for a good bike for the Collectors.

Dumar is a parent company of the NEXT brand bikes.: China, Philippines.

The Bike Called SHIFT - A Look Review

This Above illustration Photo shows the 16-inch-wheel bicycle, designed by
Scott S. Shim assistant professor of visual and performing arts at
Purdue University.
The new bicycle design created at
Purdue University could erase the need
for parents to hold on to the back of a two-wheel bicycle as their child
learns how to ride.
The bike, called SHIFT, was created by Shim and two students. Their design
topped 853 entrants from 56 countries to win the $15,000 first prize in the
9th
International Bicycle Design Competition in Taiwan.
***** A New Design Could Transform 1st Bike Ride *****
Who can forget the thrill - and terror - of that first solo
bicycle ride: Mom or Dad letting go, the magic of two-wheeled
freedom and, inevitably, toppling over in a knee-scraping crash?
Three
Purdue University industrial designers who tapped into
memories of their own childhood cycling misadventures have built
a bike that ditches the training wheels but keeps rookies stable.
Called SHIFT, it slowly transforms from a tricycle to bicycle configuration as
the rider pedals faster, then returns to trike formation as the rider slows down.
Lead designer Scott Shim hopes the design, which won top honors
recently at an international bicycle design competition, can help
children slowly gain the skill and courage to pedal off on their own.
The design features a single front wheel and two slim rear wheels that are
initially splayed outward to stabilize and prevent the rider from toppling
over. As the rider accelerates and leans forward, the rear wheels shift inward,
narrowing into a single wheel surface that essentially makes it a two-wheel venture.
As the bike slows, the rear wheels tilt back to the tricycle formation.
Shim, an assistant professor of industrial design, said he and his two
collaborators came up with the idea while brainstorming a concept to enter
in the 9th
International Bicycle Design Competition in Taipei, Taiwan.
He and recent Purdue design graduates Matthew Grossman and Ryan Lightbody
traded childhood memories of looking back frantically at their father or
mother after they sent them on their way on initial solo rides.
"That was the common thing - looking back to see if your dad is
holding your seat, and having that fear of crashing or falling
all the time while you're riding," said Shim, an assistant professor
of industrial design whose 4-year-old son is at the tricycle stage.
"So we thought if we could make a tricycle kind of bicycle, it would get
that burden off the child's shoulders so he or she could focus on trying
to learn to ride."
The key to their bike, which resembles a trike with crooked wheels while
at rest, is a belt with a spring mechanism that pulls the rear wheels inward.
Their design was among 24 of 853 initial entries chosen for the competition's
final round, in which teams had three months to build a quarter-scale model of
their bike.
Judges were so impressed with the Purdue team's design they awarded it
he $15,000 top prize and had a full-scale prototype built for display.
Shim and his collaborators are now working to get their design patented
and find an investor to manufacture the bike. Three companies - two from
Korea and one from Taiwan - are interested, Shim said.
He said he has already received more than 100 e-mails
from consumers asking when the bike might hit the market.
Ryan Atkinson, brand manager at Waterloo, Wis.-based
Trek Bicycle Corp.,
said the design, which has won the praise of the Industrial Design Society
of America, would have wide appeal to able-bodied children and children and
adults with special needs.
"They've really touched on something unique in the way the bike stabilizes itself,"
he said.
Jerry Clements, a family physician from New York City, contacted Shim
in hopes he could buy a version of the bike for his two 6-year-old daughters,
now in the training-wheel stage. He said it's been frustrating helping his
girls learn to ride.
"You can get a kid up on two wheels and as long as they're moving and they're
looking where they're going, they're going to do OK. But once they slow down and
stop, they fall over, get scared and get off. Then you have to start all over again."

Odyssey`s Elementary Stem Review

Cerritos, Ca --
Odyssey`s Elementary is a BMX stem that
would look at home atop a high-end road bike.
Two years in development, the single-bolt design
snugs up the bar and steerer with one bolt adjustment.
"The unique U-frame shape is made from 2014 aluminum and has
far less material than most traditional alumminum-block stems,"
said Nuno Oliveira of Odyssey`s sales department.
"Combine that with the fact that one bolt is doing the job
of six, and you end up with an eigh-ounce Elementary stem."
Given the stem`s clamping power, Odyssey does
not recommend usage with carbon fiber steerers.
The company has patents pending on the system of wedges
it uses to simultaneously clamp the bar and fork.
Stems are available with a 50-millimerter extension,
with or without Gyro tabs, for $59.99
----------------------------------------
Elementary Stem-Two years of prototyping, revision and continuous ride testing.
The result is a design with superior clamping power at half the weight of an ordinary stem.
One bolt simultaneously expands four wedge components
to clamp the handlebar and fork steerer tube in place.
Available with or without Gyro tabs. Black anodized aluminum finish.
50 mm reach. 8 ounces / 230 grams. U.S. and foreign utility patents pending.

Gene`s BMX News --
In 1995 Schwinn Bicycles rolled out the
Schwinn ENF BMX Frame
made out of pasta = Aluminum Lasagna. It was said to have been a
first aluminum Schwinn BMX frame....Ten years latter in year 2005
Schwinn rolls out a BMX Sting Pro Frame. Keeping the Aluminum
Lasagna on the dinner table for the BMX community.
The dinner bells are ringing and talk about a hot looking
bmx frame on the dinner table that Schwinn is serving up.
The Schwinn 2005 Sting Pro Frame, A Race Red Color
6061 Aluminum , with machined head tube, ( 20.5" top tube )
TT and DT gussets, Ram Air seat stay yoke with Epicenter seat stay,
Euro BB with extruded CS yoke, forged alloy dropout, - I say wow!
Also a all new looking Schwinn logo head badge and cool looking
Schwinn STING logo stickers are on the Sting Pro frame.............
You have to have a fork for a good lasagna dinner. Schwinn serves
dinner with The Fork - The Sting Pro has a Schwinn Special O.P.S.
Lite Full Cr-Mo Unicrown with 31.8 round blades, new dropouts for
14 mm axles, 1 piece CNC machined steerer tube.
To keep the frame and fork looking nice on the dinner table
at all times, The Sting Pro has The Headset - Tange DL-81
alloy cup with Cr-mo races.
As bmxers pull up to sit around the dinner table, Schwinn likes
to keep them there by adding a Seat Clamp - XS alloy with steel
threaded inserts to this Sting Pro Frame dinner.
The bill from Schwinn for the BMX Aluminum 2005
Sting Pro Frame Lasagna Dinner - MSRP: $249.99
What's a good dinner with out someone always taking some

Added Information:
Some stuff that I found with this new Schwinn Sting 2005 bmx frame.
This Schwinn Sting Frame does NOT come with a Owners Manual.
I find that real strange as Schwinn is well known for its owners
manuals for most of there bikes and frames.
Looking via Schwinn`s specifications about this frame,
and the Schwinn Sting 2005 bmx frame I got and have,
http://sports.webshots.com/photo/1246460950063599684IxNnoE ( Photo sting02 )
It has just a basic fork that is color black and not crome like Schwinn shows in
there specifications. The color is all ok with me but the fork is about the same as
on my Schwinn 95 ENF but not crome. I do not think you can add a 14mm to it.
Also--
There is NO place to use chain tensioners on the back stays of
frame, like Schwinn says in there specifications ( Photo 0017 )
http://sports.webshots.com/photo/1246464058063599684WnUcbS
The little holes are just cooling holes from making the frame.
There is no threads in the holes nor are the holes big enuff
to tap threads in to the holes, Schwinn was asked about this,
becouse this is the only reason I got the frame, as the 1995
Schwinn ENF frame ( wich I have & run ) is everything of
this but the chain tensioners. It would have been a step up,
but there is no place for chain tensioners on eather frame.......
A 2 shot photo of my 1995 Schwinn ENF frame - built up.
http://www.genesbmx.com/enf_jpg.html
Other than that, This frame - on the main down tube,
( where it says STING ) It is not round, it is sort
of a square/round tube...."thats cool looking"
Sitting both, this new 2005 Sting and the 1995 ENF frames
side by side, there is not much that has been changed but the
square/round tube and the Euro bottom bracket.................
All and all, Its a nice new looking frame, but its about the same.

This new Schwinn Sting-Ray Scooter does look cool
and does ride smooth for a scooter. It also looks good
side by side with my Schwinn Sting-Ray 20' Street Series bike.

A Sure-stop hand brake with a alloy color matched brake lever.
You can also push down on the back fender to drag stop on
the back wheel, as this is also used as a brake to stop the scooter.
The back fender does have a skid plate built in the inter part of the
fender, making it a bit strong to do so.....
Somewheres, someone was asking about the brakes on this scooter.
So here are a few photo shots of just the brake area on the scooter.

Schwinn`s Spoiler Chopper Bike Vs. Redline`s RainCity Chopper

Schwinn`s Spoiler
Gene`s BMX News --
Two well known names in the bicycling industry -
Schwinn and Redline. They both have high end
chopper bikes. But what one is the best chopper
bike that you would want to ride and show off on?
Both of the bikes are sold at IBD shops at a some what of a high price.
Both of the bikes look way cool, But what one will make it or brake it
in the bicycle industry? Is it just a fad? Only time will tell.........
With everyone cashing in on Schwinn`s New Spoiler Sting-Ray bike,
Less do some shopping here and take a look at Redlines`s New
RainCity Chopper bike and see how the two bikes look side by side.
The Schwinn Spoiler Sting-Ray Bike go`s for $599.99msrp at IBD`s.
It is sorta hard to get your hands on one right now, but they are starting
to show up at bikes shops around the US, as people are getting them.
http://www.schwinnstingray.com/bike-spoiler.html ( photo listed )
Dripping with chrome and bad to the bone, the new Sting-Ray Spoiler is
the baddest ride on the road. Aluminum frame. 4-Legged Freak suspension
fork. Dual disc brakes. Big Boa 4.25" rear tire. Custom embroidered saddle.
Unmatched value. Unparalled specs. Unbelievably cool and available only
through your local Schwinn bike shop. The competition just became irrelevant.

Word is, there is no word on anyone riding around on this new bike?
The Question is, Does anyone have one of the new Redline choppers?
I guess this new bike is still a Redline project bike? Who knows?
http://www.raincitychoppers.net/projectbikes.htm ( photos listed )
Aluminum for the frame, and picked a belt-drive system instead
of a regular chain. Using scraps from out back of the garage,
we shaped some sweet tubbed dropouts, while Fat Frank shaped
the alloy tank. We went back 'n forth on whether to add springer
forks or stick with the rigid's, but finally opted on the chromo
one-piece bar/fork combo as the cleanest choice. This babe Linda,
who hangs out at the shop on Thursdays, did the stitching on the
saddle. the red sword striping added the final touch. Overall,
we're pretty friggin' pleased with the finished project.
So much so, that we will likely allow Redline to license
our name and put these bad ass bicycle choppers in production.
A small brake down -
Both are chopper bikes. - Both are sold at IBD shops.
Schwinn`s bike is of a lower price and looks cool.
Schwinn`s bike is out there being road around at this time
Redline`s bike is of a higher price and looks cool.
Redline`s bike has not been seen riding around at this time.
